In the course of the project, a practical training program for young girls - "Women’s Happiness Drugstore" - will be developed and implemented in schools together with the Syktyvkar Center for Family Planning and Reproductive Health.

The main objective of the proposed project is to raise awareness of teenagers aged 13-18 of existing sports facilities in the city, promote physical culture and healthy lifestyles, involve teenagers in sport.

The project is aimed at primary prevention of psychoactive substances addiction (tobacco, alcohol, drugs) among teenagers in Syktyvkar using innovative methods of work.

According to the Republic’s statistics, 94 teenagers tried to commit suicide in the period of 8 months in 2008, 14 of them died. It is urgent to take measures to prevent suicidal tendencies among teenagers. It was noted that in Syktyvkar suicide attempts had been taken by vocational students. Therefore, the purpose of our project id to promote a positive lifestyle to prevent the suicidal behavior among adolescents aged 15-16.

“GONG” youth newspaper

We propose to issue a newspaper for teenagers, which will provide information about the danger of psychoactive substances, the ways of HIV and STIs prevention, as well as information of useful life skills that help maintain health. Information will be provided by teenagers themselves in an interesting, entertaining form (photo-reports, interviews, brief articles, author’s columns, etc.). A team of young reporters will be formed and trained in the course of the project implementation.

In 2005, the Komi Republic took the 5th place in the North-Western region of Russia in terms of the prevalence of the suicide problem, by the end of 2007 it took the third place. Particularly acute is the problem in the districts of the Republic. In response to the increasing incidence of suicide among adolescents in the Komi Republic, we propose a project aimed at developing a system of positive attitudes to life promoted among teenagers in the areas of the Republic.

In the Komi Republic, an increase in the drugs use by adolescents is observed. Informing of the problem in a usual way may not give positive results. New creative approaches and solutions in the field of primary prevention are needed. Thus, a new word in this field will be a photo exhibition followed by social and educational trainings. We use the photos of Swedish journalist Marie Söderberg. Her exposition is unique. With all her journalistic credibility, without excessive expression, she describes hell, which life of a dependent person becomes.
